Privacy Policy

Giftinglist helps you plan gifts: the people you give to, the occasions you celebrate, your gift ideas and what you spend. This policy explains what information we keep, why, and the choices you have. Giftinglist is run by Greg Robleto (“we”, “us”). It covers the Giftinglist iPhone app and the website at giftinglist.app, which share the same account.
The short version
- We keep only what you put into Giftinglist, plus your email so you can sign in.
- We don’t sell your information, show ads, or track you across other apps and websites.
- We don’t use analytics or advertising SDKs.
- You can download all of your data, or delete your account and everything in it, at any time from Settings.
Information we collect
Account information
Your email address, an optional name, and your password. We never store your password itself, only a one-way hash of it.
What you add to Giftinglist
The people, households and groups you give to, and anything you record about them (such as relationships, birthdays, interests, sizes, dietary notes and other notes); occasions, budgets and deadlines; gift ideas, links and images; and the gifts you plan and buy, with their costs and status. The people you add don’t have accounts with us. Please only add what you need to plan gifts for them.
Sign-in sessions
When you sign in we set one cookie that keeps you signed in. It holds a random token; we store only a hash of it, with its expiry date. We don’t use any other cookies.
Technical information
Like any website, our hosting provider receives your IP address and basic request details (such as browser type) when you use Giftinglist. These are used to deliver the service and keep it secure, are kept briefly in server logs, and are not used to build a profile of you.
How we use your information
- To provide Giftinglist: store your lists, show your plans and budgets, and sync between the app and the web.
- To keep your account secure, such as signing you out of other devices when you change your password.
- To answer you when you contact support.
We don’t sell or rent your information, use it for advertising, or share it with data brokers. We don’t use it to train AI models.
Who we share it with
We use a small number of service providers to run Giftinglist. They process data only on our behalf and only to provide their service:
- Netlify hosts the website and app server.
- Neon hosts our database, where your account and lists are stored.
When a gift idea includes a link or image from another website, your device loads that image from that site, which will see your IP address. We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the rights and safety of our users or the service. If Giftinglist is ever transferred to a new owner, this policy will continue to apply to your information.
Where your data is stored
Your data is stored on servers in the United States. It is encrypted in transit (HTTPS) and at rest by our database provider.
How long we keep it
We keep your information for as long as you have an account. When you delete your account, your account and everything in it are deleted from our live database immediately. Copies in encrypted database backups are overwritten within 30 days.
Your choices and rights
- Access and correct. You can see and edit everything you’ve added directly in the app.
- Download. In Settings, choose “Download my data” for a copy of everything in your account as a JSON file.
- Delete. In Settings, choose “Delete my account” to permanently delete your account and all of its data. If you can’t sign in, email us and we’ll delete it for you.
Depending on where you live (for example in the EU, UK or California), you may have additional rights, such as to object to or restrict processing, or to complain to your local data protection authority. Where those laws apply, we process your information to perform our agreement with you (providing the service) and for our legitimate interest in keeping it secure. To exercise any right, email support@giftinglist.app. We won’t treat you differently for using them.
Children
Giftinglist is not directed to children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we’ll delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we’ll update the date above. If a change is significant, we’ll let you know in the app before it takes effect.
